Help with my *cheap* DIY FPV Monitor

Alright, so I have this cheap 4.3" LCD from banggood. I was hoping to throw a RX5808 module inside this bad boy pop on a cp antenna and be off to the races.. First off a little info on each of the components.

Says it can accept an input voltage of 9v-36v (so it should handle a 3s battery no problem).

Its silkscreend 5v yet now that I read it the description reads 3.5v... (concerning).

just using this to drop input voltage to 5v for rx module..

OK here is a pic of what my poor soldering skills left me with..

I know it looks like my incoming voltage is reversed in the image. It is because the cheap jst connectors that I picked up from hobbyking came that way (wired in reverse of my batteries). So red is my neg and black is my pos... asides from that hopefully my image shows what I was attempting to do. I simply took voltage directly from battery 11.1ish v straight to the + and - of the lcd board (I triple checked the pinout of these with a multimeter before wiring it up). Pretty straight forward there from right to left its +, -, video, audio (even though it does not have speakers that I know of). Then sent my incoming voltage through the step-down where I was pushing 5.04v out to the RX5808.

Long story short. I remember seeing the monitor blink the first time I plugged in power but have seen nothing since then.. I have yet to have time to test much else other than verify the monitor no longer works (two year old twin boys so I get to work on this thing in 5 minute spurts over the weekends). Next I will be testing the RX module to see if I have burn it up by giving it 5v vs the 3.5 the specs state (which is weird as its written 5v on the board)..

My question is does this look like its wired correctly or did I do something obvious that caused the lcd to die (I was very careful around the ribbon cable (actually did not touch it at all during the entire surgery, have re-seated it just to be sure).
Has anyone done anything similar with success. This is my first time working with the RX5808 is the 470uf cap even necessary (was this possibly the cause of the lcd failing)?

    Ive just had a quick look at the parts.

    For the monitor have you selected the correct AV input as this monitor has two inputs, try testing it with another AV source ie dvd player ouput terminals. This has a good voltage input requirement so unless you have wired it in reverse there is no reason for this to fail.

    For the receiver this requires 5V, the 3V is related to the onboard electronics and if I remember correctly the module has a voltage regulator onboard. So if your supplying it with 3V it can never work as the input voltage will be to low for the onboard voltage regulator.

    The capacitor is required as its sole purpose is for DC blocking the video signal to the monitor.
