Help with wiring Sony 1/3" CCD color board camera

Can you tell me which wire is which? On the big one, I think red is 12V, the black next to it is Ground, and the other black is Video Ground, and the White is Video Out (no marking on the board). On the small one, I think red is 12V, the black next to it is Ground, and White is Video Ground, and the Yellow is Video Out (board marked 12v red; G = black; V = White; H = Yellow). They both supposed to have one power connection and one separate BNC or RCA connection, if bought wired up already.I have spent a good three hours trying to find a wiring setup for these two cameras. I picked up the large one on Ebay for $27 shipped, and the seller was very kind to throw in the other one for free. However, no wiring instructions. I assume it must be fairly standard. This is what I know: Color ZOOM Board Camera CCTV 1/3" 4-8mm .1lux 480lined SONYThe other camera I think its B&W Sony 1/3' CCD pinhole lens, 380 linesI have attached information found on a website that sells cameras like these, but could not find a diagram there either. Thanks for any help. One more question: does the 2.1mm (150 deg) lens distort too much in comparison with the 2.8mm (110 deg) lens? What lens is ideal for FPV?

  • Reto and Thomas,

Thank you for the great tips. I connected 12V (Red) and Ground (Black next to Red), and checked for voltage on the other ones. It turned out that White was the video (had about 1.7V). Not sure what the other wire is, because I do not see any Mic on the boards. Will check again, it may be a surface mount Mic.

A pleasant surprise is that the free pinhole camera is also color!
  • Does one or both boards have a microphone (electret) mounted? If yes, yellow is for video signal and white for microphone signal. Red is Vcc, certainly 12V on the larger sony ccd. Black is Gnd. Try it out and switch yellow and white if it doesn't give you video.
I see no good reason to ground video separately from main power.
