How to manipulate voltage to motors and integrate appropriate platform
Hi forum,
Just bought a new RC helicopter (http://www.amax-toys.com/e/products/RC%20Toy/RC%20Helicopter/rh-qs8...) and I now want to integrate an Arduino into it.
I've worked with the Arduino environment before with the Teensy board, but I think I may have to upgrade for this project.
Would it be appropriate to purchase the ArduPilotMega with the IMU shield or is there a cheaper way to do it?
Also, are people soldering directly to the motors on the aircraft or sending signals to the onboard controller to do it? I ask this because it's my understanding that the Arduino can only output 5 Volts and my helicopter runs at 11.1V.

I can see a feww problems with this . generally these come with intagrated radio and esc (all on one board) and you would have to cut traces and figure out what voltages the boards are running at . you could probly replace the control board with a regular RC TX RX and speed controls (three of them) but then there the problem of setting up the TX (no support for coaxial heli that i,v seen).
and with 8min of flight time , these heli,s are very stable i would just have fun till i moved on to T-rex 450
