I am a mechanical engineer and have been working on an airfoil project. I really need an Octa-copter platform to do testing with (I have considered a Hexa-copter but the Octa will give me a better symmetric system so I can change test parameters.) I am good with design and have programming knowledge but the EE stuff is not my strongest area of expertise (motor selection, batteries etc.) I am also working on a "just out of college" budget and am hoping to work a deal with someone that could involve some trading? Perhaps someone has crashed an octa-copter recently and has the parts? I have built robots and programmed arduino's, but I am new to the drone world. I know an Octacopter is a large first step but please, save lectures that begin with "start small, you noob." I am building a specific project with specific needs and am willing to spend the time needed to do it right.
-The flight electronics, motors, servos, software, etc... for an Octacopter, A frame is not necessary as I will most likely build one that fits my airfoil specs.
-If all goes well with my testing, I would like to use the drone for payload pickup and drop off. The more weight it can lift, the better. (I am thinking a 10lb. payload for a 10-15 minute flight time would be tits)
-First person video is not necessary but... just thinking about it gives me a partial chub.
-A street luge made from aluminum honeycomb and carbon honeycomb. Very fast and lightweight, approx. $950 in materials alone.
-Project supplies including fiberglass cloth, honeycomb and various other things (what do you need for your next project? maybe I have it!)
-Cold hard cash, the good stuff that everyone loves.
-Whatever inspires your help, seriously just ask.
I am shooting in the dark here. Even some email time with a person that builds a lot of these things would be appreciated to get me on my feet and flying. My main focus right now is my airfoil research but I am in love with drones and this community of builders. Thanks for any help you have!
Indeed it might, thank you Monroe!
I am located in Flagstaff, AZ, but shipping or road trips are always an option.
What is your budget and Where are you from? I may help.
