Just a heads up, Invensense IMU3000 chip is now available for purchase. It's a 3-axis gyro that's designed to be paired with a digital 3-axis accelerometer, and does sensor fusion on chip, removing the need for kalman filtering on an external MCU. Outputs are, besides gyro and accelerometer readings, temperature, attitude (as a quaternion), and lineair acceleration.

They sell a breakout board for $60 that comes with an accelerometer, so it's essentially a full IMU with handy I2C interface. I'm looking to get one but FedEx to the Netherlands isn't cheap, so if anyone is willing to share shipping costs let me know :)

Come on, 89,- euro?!
Thanks for info but the price at invensense : 59$ + 54$(fedex) = 113$ soit 89 euros.
It's your choice: your money for fedex or lipoly.
If we share shipping costs it will cost you less!
If you chose Fedex you should pay taxes!

I'm ok if you want to share shipping costs.

Thx
Great Rommel! We are organizing to share costs. Confirm me as your friend here on diydrones so I can private message you or simply contact me on my email: fvaresano at yahoo dot it ...
rommel, are you still interested in buying the IMU with us? I did not received an email from you nor I've been accepted as your friend. If you still are interested please contact me at fvaresano@yahoo.it as soon as possible. I'd like to place the order this weekend.

Bonjour Jean-Louis,

I am Andreas from Germany, and I also want to build a sailing boat autopilot.

So far I have build the tilt compensated compass using Arduino, MMA7260 analog accelerometer and HMC5843. You can see here how it compensates for tilt:

http://home.arcor.de/dreckes

It is, however, sensitive to linear acceleration. That is why I want to integrate it with a gyro.

How far have you got in your project?

Which GPS parser do you intend to use?

The ones available for arduino I think, are mainly 2, tinyGPS and the code by Lamers from NL. But both cannor parse data on wind speed or wind direction, nor waypoint data. If you like, we can develop the code together.

Which display do you intend to use?  See mine at my webpage. Problem here is the large code for my LCD.

Maybe a graphic LCD has less code. I have no experience with that.

I may be interested aswell in the accel-maganetometer I2C chip aswell. Why ship be FEDEX?

There is the US postoffice that has "small flat rate packages" tariff to Europe at 10$. And I was charged no customs this way. Why not use this way?

Pleas accept my "friends invitation".

Hoping to hear from you. Yo are welcome to e-mail me. Find my address on my website.

Cheers, Andreas

If anyone is interested in buying things from invensense.com with us and share shipping costs we are trying to orginize a group buy.

Please contact me: fvaresano at yahoo dot it ..

I also sent a similar message on Arduino forum: http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1284464786/0

Thanks,

If anyone is interested, I'm organizing a new group buy from invensense. See http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/group-buy-from-invensensecom
Because it's not available yet.. or at least, not from their website.
Hello,
IMU3000 is a sensor fusion and contains a DMP Digital Motion Processor can calculate quaternion, rotation matrix and other complex functions independently. Unfortunately it is very complex because you use it INVENSENSE does not release specific information. Thanks to some "knowledge" I managed to get the Motion Processing Library for XMEGA (INVENSENSE original) but I need help to use them on Arduino system.
Can you help me?
Thanks............................
Paul
