IMU's around the outside of a multicopter

Hi,

Is there a way to mount the IMU's on the outboard portion of a multicopter frame, rather than the center? I want to build a copter that's just a hoop, with no structure in the middle, but I would then need to put motion sensors on at least three ends of the copter. Can someone point me to an autopilot that can handle that?
