Is it at all possible to perform any type of inflight retasking?
I am considering using the ArduPilotMega system as a base on which to build an aircraft capable of entering the Outback Chalenge.

Has anyone ever done any inflight retasking, or would have a way of doing so?

With the new guided mode you could have a mission and then retask it to fly to an area. The other option is to upload a new mission while in the air and then command it to resart the mission or similar from the start of the new mission.
