I have the APM2 with 2.5.4 loaded in my hexacopter.  Sometimes when powered on the APM2 will not go through its startup routine. It happends randomly. The blue solid LED instantly comes on and the leds do not go through the sequence.  Nothing else happends.  The red LED does not have any activity  even when the gps gets a lock.  Mavlink does not work either.  I cleared the eprom, reloaded the firmware and still the same problem.  I have sonar, xbees and a receiver connected.  I have disconnected the sonar and xbees and repowered on and nothing.  I never connect the usb and xbees at the same time btw.  I think this problem started a couple days ago when I loded 2.5.4  All connections are tight. So basically what does it mean when the solid blue light comes instantly?  If anybody has any ideas they would be appreciated.

Got ahead of myself typing.  I meant blue leds for gps and red for the arming/disarming of motors

I just started with this also, and experienced the same thing , also with APM 2 and 2,5,4 version loaded.  After plugging in the lipo, I only got a solid blue light, and the motors would not arm.  After unplugging the lipo and replugging it,  I would then get the flashing red and blue leds.  Now I can arm my motors.  I have to do this routinely,  then someone advised to press the "reset" button on the board after plugging in the lipo, and this works every time.  It also is recommended to do this to avoid the "reverse compass" bug which is a nasty bug that will end up in you loosing your robot friend.  Also I heard about a flip bug which I just might have experienced.  Not sure yet.  I'm trying to figure out how to view logs from Mission Planner.  If you know, please advise.  thanks.  In the meantime, the awesome guys from DIY Drones are trying to get a fix on the above mentioned bugs and put out a new version soon.  I'm sure they will do as they say.  On a good note, I am very happy about the APM 2 board overall and I'm pretty sure that all of these mishaps have more to do with me than the hardware or software.

Yep reset works like a charm.  Couldnt get the data logs to open in the mission planner after following the wiki instructions.  This mission planner is new to me. Its come a long way.  My last quad I had to compile the code in arduino.
