Hey Everybody,

I'm asking for a 3DR Quad-Copter for Christmas from the wife this year and I was wondering whether there is significant cause for getting the uBlox GPS module over the Mediatek? Also, does the Mediatek come as well even if you add on the uBlox (assuming that the wife was to order from the DIYDrones store). Look forward to getting active in the community after Christmas!

Thanks,

Evan Moore

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would put in my $.02. On my APM 2.0 I just upgraded to  the Ublox, and I would say my navigation and loiter performance got better my multiple orders. The mediatek updates at 10hz, but that position info is useless when the each cycle has position drift, the Ublox has a rock solid position. My GPS problems with the mediatek could however have been related to interference from being onboard the APM 2.0, which has known interference issues for the onboard mediatek. An external mediatek may perform fine.

  • Is the uBlox still tops when compared to the new MediaTek 2.0?

  • Thanks for the replies, looks like I'll definitely be asking for the uBlox.

An no, if you add the ublox, the mediatek gps won't come with the board.

  • Likewise,

I have both and have done back to back comparison on APM1 and 2.

    Ublox wins every time.

I wouldn't get anything but the ublox.
