I have a question re the joystick option...

Having played with a joystick enabled in the APM planner to control the aircraft (arduplane software loaded) in assisted mode, we have noted that when the transmitter used by the safety pilot is switched to manual mode, he does not regain control of the APM 2.

I appreciate you can't have two sets of control inputs going to the APM 2 as it would get confused, but surely the safety pilot should always be able to over ride the APM to re gain manual control if things were going wrong?

At present, it seems that the safety pilot is taken out of the loop totally while a joystick is enabled, that can't be right on safety grounds as it defeats the purpose of the safety pilot in the first place!

Have we got a setting wrong somewhere or is this an issue that needs correcting, in which case I will post it in the issues section.

apm2 does not have a hardware mux, so the only way to override is to disable the joystick in the gcs

That's a bit of a major flaw then.

I don't have access to an apm at the moment, but if it is in joystick mode and loses the xbee telemetry link what would happen?

it falls back to rc after a specific amount of time. i cant recall how long though

Any idea where that information would be found?
