Just wanted to thank everyone on the team at DIY DRONES on the excellent job with APM 2.  I just uploaded Arducopter 2.5 and so far it's awesome.  Well, truthfully I haven't flown it more than 2 or 3 feet above my livingroom floor (it's raining here and can't fly outside :( , can't wait) .  Besides that I'm a primitive, a step lower down than a newbie, and all of this is pretty new to me.   I am running six 880 kv motors with 9 x 5 props on a hexa + formation, two 5000 mah lipos, and a gopro camera.  Total weight is approximately 2.7 kg.  A member on a forum with similar specs recommended the following:

Rate P .09,  Rate I .002, Rate D .006, and Stab P 3.7.

I entered these PID tuning numbers and so far my first takeoff (in my living room) seemed very stable and controlled.  However, I have yet to try outside with wind and air currents.  Can anyone add anymore suggestions on the PID numbers or any other advice, would be much appreciated.  I've attached a photo of my hexacopter and the APM 2 board encased in a jewel box ( to give it the spotlight it much deserves)  Thanks for all of your help so far.

Congrats! That's a cool-looking frame. Did you design it yourself?

I wish.  No, it was designed by Crash 9 from FPV Pilot.  I did however, come up with the design for the mounts and placement of the board.  It's actually in the display case of Gopro cameras, which they use to package their cameras.  The frame is aircraft aluminum, and the booms are isolated from the main frame with rubber isolating bushing for anti-vibration.  It works, because there are virtually no vibrations at the center of the frame, so I didn't need any special mounts for my gopro camera, and the video comes out clear and stable.  But the crown still goes to the APM 2 board which is definitely the highlight of this aircraft!

beware of the compass reversal bug on APM2  - I tried to warn users of the is forum , but cot censored.

Sales do not respond or care that I strongly suggest this information should be public until bug is fixed.

I lost my 3DR with APM2 + accessories in the sea after a runaway due to bug that reverses compass-.

Which version of Ardupilot did you have uploaded on you APM 2 board?  I uploaded the latest version which is 2.5 and hopefully this version has a fix on that bug.  So the bug causes a reversal on the compass causing the aircraft to runaway?  Can't you just stop and hover then land?

2.5.4 -  you should read the whole story (search for "compass reversed" in forum)

it flew out of sight, adding the problem caused by manually fighting wind for minutes - it was impossible to fly. And no, I am not a newbie, and this is my first crash for the past >10 years. - I fly with very well build equipment, and very expensive equipment, like my avatar suggests :)

Thanks for the warning.  Didn't mean to imply that you are a newbie.  Since I am new to UAV's, I probably ask very basic questions (still learning).  I will check it out to be on the safe side.
