Mavlink won't connect through radio

Hello all,

I ordered a Y6 from 3DR and got it built last week.  I struggled on a few parts, but otherwise it went together easily. First flight went well, crashed it on the second flight (um, pilot error :-D ).

The main thing I am stuck on right now is telemetry. I bought the 3dr radio kit to go with it, and I can't seem to get it to connect no matter what I do.  I get a solid green light when I power them up, and I can see the local and remote radio settings in MP.  When I try to connect with Mavlink, it times out saying no heartbeat packets received.  It seems like the radio and APM aren't talking to each other).  I've tried searching for solutions, and can't seem to find any.

I have updated the firmware on both, reset to defaults, made sure settings on each are the same, I've plugged them both into the same computer and opened terminal windows with each com port. When I type characters in one terminal, it shows up on the other end, and can enter command mode on each radio.  When I connect directly to the USB port on the APM, MP connects at 115200, and when I try to connect via radio, I use the default 57600.  I tried 115200 for the radio, thinking if MP connects at 115200 via USB that the radio should too, but no luck there.  I'm not certain what else to try.

Any suggestions for what else to do or settings to check?  Yes it's plugged in.  :-D

  • Yes I did. It was a problem in the APM. I contacted 3DR support and they had me check a few things (I don't recall the details, I have the emails at home). They ended up sending me a replacement unit.
  • I am having the same issue - 2.8.30.0 firmware for the RFD900 radios, firmware on APM 2.6 ArduPlane V3.0.3 and mission planner 1.3.5 build 1.1.5260.33055 - did you ever figure this out?
