This is very strange problem.

Facts: First let me list the details, FC HK MultiWii Pro, using Arduino 1.0.5 r2, but have also tried 1.0.1, Started with MegaPirateNG 2.7 r4 then 2.8 r3 and ardupilot-mpng-mpng-3.0.1-r4 with Arduino-1.0.3-Special.  I'm using Turnigy 9x TX and RX, stock software V2.   I first started with MultiWii 2.3. Using MultiWii GUI, everything work as it should, including all TX controls.  Wanting the capabilities of 6 Flight Modes, etc. I upgraded with MegaPirateNG and Mission Planner.  Everything worked except GPS.

Problem;  Trying to get the GPS to function I lost TX input. Unable to calibrate or show flight modes when selected.  Mission planner now does not even show the yellow prior to calibrating. Now if I revert back to MultiWii 2.3 the TX works fine.  Proves that binding is good, and TX & RX working properly. I also have Bluetooth and get the same results from DroidPlanner (android).

I have checked and double checked and can not find the problem. I know that I could just run with MultiWii 2.3 but shouldn't have to. Does anyone have any thoughts? Please keep in mind that I'm new at this and missed or did something stupid.  Need help desperately as forehead is bleeding severely from banging head against wall.

I did get the GPS to work by defining GPS_PROTOCOL_NMEA to GPS_PROTOCOL_AUTO in MegaPirate NG.

  • the firmware defaults to PPM sum to A8.

    refer to...

    http://www.megapirateng.com/how-to-configure-mpng-3-0-1-firmware/

    change

    1 #define SERIAL_PPM SERIAL_PPM_ENABLED

    With this:

    1 #define SERIAL_PPM SERIAL_PPM_DISABLED
    • Thanks Jason for your reply. I have since found Multiwii 2.3 Nav B7 which adds the functionality of six flight modes with the Gear & Aux 3 Flight Mode switch.

      • I'm doing the same with the 3pos switch and another switch to get 6 functions between 2 swithes.

(open 9x firmware on 9x radio)

but using a frsky rx that outputs the ppmsum so using the feature.

        How are you finding multiwii?

I decided to try megapirateng and not really looked back. tuning is a headache, but it's flying nicely...

        • Jason I'm so new at this I can't even spell Quadchopter.  I have everything but the frame which has been in New York Customs for 33 days now. However, I have to look at the bright side and realize that I have been forced into going slow, a lot of valuable reading and setup time which would have been rushed over. I purchased the HK MultiWii Pro FC and the 9x. Oh I think I just learned how to spell Quadcopter . . .

          • ok, there are a few quirks with the 3.0.1 software when using the HK multiwii pro. I got round them, but not for the feint hearted...

Download 2.9.1 rev b megapirate ng

            and follow this guide... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1752719

and remember the ppm sum line. the 9x puts each channel on a different wire from the receiver.

you need to tell it to expect this in the code...
