Hello,
This mission planner is absolutly briliant but there is one little thing I wonder if it is possible to do. I have an ArcGIS mapping solution and alot of my own data running on ArcGIS Desktop 9.2. Is there a way I can tel the application to use my data instead of the online data available because I am going to areas in africa where there is no internet at all and I would like to plot on some GIS information.
Here is a funtionality matrix for more information about the product.

Any help will be appretiated.
Kind Regards
do you have a wms provider? the planner supports wms images

Is there something special I must do for this to be initiated?
just pick customwms from the map option list, and it will ask for a url. enter your server wms url and it should work.
it needs to be in wgs84 however. not utm or other system.
there is anther option as well.
if you have used globalmapper, you can load a ecw, and export it as google tiles. the planner can directly import a google tiles output.

Hi Michael. Thanks for the great work and constant updates on Mission Planner! I have just downloaded Global Mapper and have discovered just how lost I am. (Pardon the long explanation of my situation) I built my super server to run the planes first. I would like to download the google tiles and save them to my RAID in order to operate independant of the internet. I have a 20 Square mile area that I will be flying within
1. What is an ecw and where do I find it to load?
2. Will this format allow me to zoom? If not, how do I save in order to have zoom capability in Flight Planner?
3. Will Mission planner still track the flight path with these files?
4. To use these map files in the Mission Planner, do I just change the dropdown menu in Flight Planner to Google satellite? How do you configure the planner to use saved map files?
5. Do I have to save at each zoom level?
6. What am I doing wrong? I cant seem to even find these maps on Global Mapper! Arrgh!. LOL
Michael,
if you dont come from a surveying/gis background i think your going to have a hard time.
1. an ecw is just a big image, you would need to buy/find this from someone in your country
2. yes
3. yes
4. i listed 2 methods above, so depends on what one you take.
5. the globalmapper export takes care of several zoom levels at once.
6. getting the map in the first place will be the issue. i cant realy tell you where as i dont know myself.
Alrighty, I have managed to find where the map is supposedly located through Global mapper. I am not able to download the map because I am getting the error that the "EWS online" dropdown warns about. I downloaded the EWS file plugin, but am still getting nothing. Maybe this is because I am using the unregistered version of Global Mapper? That $400 license fee is pretty steep!

Using ResMap with Global Mapper 5.08 and above
Global Mapper has added links to over 9000 Landsat TM & ETM+ images in the release 5.08. Directly access this data in Global Mapper for free through the "Open ECW File from the Web" File menu option.

Permalink Reply by cvanvollenstee on February 23, 2012 at 1:26am You know the easiest is use GeoServer install it on your laptop and copy the Raster or Sat data your laptop, and they have a very nice tutorial on creating WMS webservice and insert the url in fligtplanner it is the cleanest way of doing it without having to spend money if your data is for free.
Thanks for the advice! Will this still allow me to save to the computer and use without internet?
Permalink Reply by cvanvollenstee on February 23, 2012 at 6:05am Yes this will then everything is local. Unless Mission planner is accessing an external service (Except for uploading of firm ware) to configure the droid. I have tested it a bit ofline but not completly.
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The third round was a reliablilty/aerial photography round for both planes and copters, which is now closed. Stay tuned for the next round, beginning soon.17 members
