Hello,
Downloaded MissionPlanner32-1.2.msi, won't install. Install Shield goes through its paces, Around the "validating" step it says "rolling back" and uninstalls, ending with "error....etc."
This is a Win XP machine, 32 bit. Installed .Net Frameworks:
.Net 3.5 SP1
.Net 3.0 Service Pack 2
.Net 2.0 Service Pack 2
.Net 1.1
Ok, while checking versions for this post, I fired up APM Planner 1.1.88 mav 0.9 and allowed it to do the update. Now running MP 1.2 mav 1.0, seems ok.
Any clue why it wouldn't install on its own but did via the updater?
Just trying to understand.
Thanks,

It's a little early to declare it dead when it's still number one! It's also interesting to note that this is even after years of Microsoft aggressively forcing users and manufacturers to switch.
It will be a long, long time before it even falls below #2.
Permalink Reply by David Crater on July 30, 2012 at 9:33am Which driver are you referring to? Com port? Downloaded: Arduino MEGA 2560.inf from http://ardupilot-mega.googlecode.com/files/Arduino%20MEGA%202560.inf.
Uploaded ArduPlane to the board, appeared to complete successfully. But, cannot connect to the Com port;
Checked port num in Device Manager, baud rate (115200), tried other rates.
Do not have any power (or other connections) to board other than USB port. APM port (com22) comes and goes from MP when plug/unplug APM USB, as expected.
@Jake - Thanks for the support, but if I knew it would fix the problem, I'd ditch XP. Have Win7 but on a 64 bit machine. My drones machine is only 32 bit, not sure if installing MP on a 64 bit would help me any on the 32 bit.

David: are you using APM 1 or APM 2? APM 1 needs an FTDI driver (this is loaded automatically in Win 7 but not XP). APM 2 uses the Atmega32U2 driver that you tried before.

I have both APM1 and APM2. APM1 broke when I crashed (silly piloting error) and I was not able to fix it so I bought APM2. My current problems are with APM2.
(I'd like to repair the APM1, if anybody would try. But if it cost more than $200 to repair, I suppose it's just a decoration now.)
It appears from Device Manager that I do have the Com driver installed, and it is recognized in MP 1.2, but can't connect, as stated above.
Thanks

In device manager I always turn the com ports up to the max speed. I don't think it matters though, as whatever program you're using will set the speed anyways.

David, have you loaded firmware (ArduCopter/Plane) on the board by clicking on the appropriate icon on the firmware tab? It won't connect via MAVLink until you do.

Yes, uploaded ArduPlane from the MP screen to the APM2. It appeared to complete successfully, lots of activity on the Rx/Tx indicators, and the upload progress bars for uploading, verifying, etc. all scrolled through.

Okay, that means that the driver is working fine. Let's just confirm a couple things:
1) You've selected the right USB port in the MP and chosebn 115k as the baud rate
2) You press Connect and then it times out.
If so, please check the "Console Window" box in the Help tab and paste here what it says there when you attempt to connect.

Is this an APM 1? If so, it looks like you've got the slider switch in the wrong position. It looks like you've got in CLI mode (back). It should be in flight mode (forward).
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.688 members
