Motor choice

Im looking for some motors to buy for my new hexacopter which will weigh about 3-4 kg.
I just recently bought the S550 frame which seems to have an awesome quality and durability.
The only problem is that this frame only allows props till 10" (or with extensions 11").
The Hexa should be able to carry a gimbal and 2 3S 5000 mAh lipos (maybe im going to buy a new set of 4S Lipos) and 30A Afro ESC.
So i looked up some motors that might fit my needs, It would be very helpful if someone would help me choose the right motor, (if you suggest to make an Y6 to maximize the prop size i might also go for that concept).

  • Absolutely.  Ideally your ESC should be rated at, or slightly higher than, the maximum current your motor can draw.

  • Hi Felix,  I don't have any experience with those particular motors but I can point you to a resource that can be an enormous help in selecting everything from motors to props to battery sizes: eCalc

eCalc is extremely popular and while the basic version is free it's worth the minimal $0.99 membership fee to gain access to the full-featured version.  There's even a handy motor search and prop/kv wizard.

There are versions of eCalc for multirotors, fixed wing and helicopters.  This link is for multirotors:

    Good luck!
