So I am really getting into this sport now of RC Planes. Eventually I am interested in creating a strong plane for aerial photography. However, I still have a lot to learn about flying.
I bought the champ this past weekend and out of the box it was a blast! I didn't even crash it at all, including about 4 successful landings.
Then I let my dad try it and he crashed and broke the wing, I repaired it using glue and toothipicks.
Two days later I look the plane out for a casual park fly, but forgot to check how strong the wind was. So last night my plane spent a lonely night in a tree near the park. I'm going to try and get it back today!
Anyway, I was hoping for some guidance..
I want to start slowly and develop my interest in the hobby but working toward my goal of aerial photography. What would you guys recommend as far as learning on the champ and maybe a next plane. When would you guys recommend I buy ARM 2.0 and start flying autonomously?
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Jake Stew on July 18, 2012 at 4:00pm The stabilize and FBW modes in the APM really make flying a lot easier. However... I can't recommend getting a simulator strongly enough. AeroFly and G4/G5 are both excellent sims. G4 actually has a lot of lessons and helpful training features.
A small investment in a good sim will save you 100X the cost in broken parts and repair time. There's also really no other way to learn the fancy moves unless you have a really good coach and spend a lot of time at the airfield.
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.51 members
