Right well hello! i'm living in the UK and thinking of spending some money to get a UAV drone!

what i want is a remote controlled UAV that i can fly through the use of a monitor, ideally i want a very basic setup, but with the possibility of flying 3 miles possibly when i am a competent flyer.

ideally i need a list of stuff i need to buy for a FIXED wing (like a airplane style) UAV, i don't find helicopters that attractive for myself.

i've looked across the web at certain parts like motors and batteries and such but have no idea where to start, so a beginner list stating costs of stuff that is all ESSENTIAL would be a great help as well! :)

is it possible to transmit control signals and video signals through the same transmitter/antenna?

i am not to familiar with all these abbreviations such as APM 2 and such like that, so if you do want to use these please please go gently and explain them as simply as possible (i'm not a stupid person and can learn quickly, i just have no knowledge at all of drones)

any mistakes people have made along the way that i should avoid doing too could be helpful, thanks in advance guys (and/or ladies)! :D

Check out the E382 setup at event38.com... I don't offer FPV (first person view, what the hobby you describe above is commonly called) planes yet but when I do it'll be basically the same thing with a video tx/rx and camera. You can just copy that setup and be assured everything works together. APM means ardupilot mega (click on the store link in diydrones to access the 3d robotics store). I'd recommend the ImmersionRC 5.8GHz 600mW transmitter and the Airwave 5.8GHz receiver but they haven't been in stock reliably for about 5 months now.

Also check out the FPV forum on rcgroups.com for more FPV specific info.
