Hello everyone,
I found this website while researching options for a viable UAV solution at work. My background-I'm an FAA Private Pilot, a law enforcement officer and a background in programming, mostly in the area of web development. I'm a geek in nature and obviously have a passion for aviation. Regardless if my idea becomes a reality I believe I'm already hooked into the RC world. With the fuel increases over the years I no longer can afford to even fly a Cessna on a policeman's budget :(
Here is my goal:
To create an affordable UAV that is salable to future demands that my agency can deploy in sensitive/critical situations to enhance officer safety. Obviously I've been following the latest moves in Congress and the FAA, especially all the bad press against law enforcement's use in this field. It's quite a shame as the option to use a drone was always just a dream for most guys like me. To enhance people's safety while keeping overall costs down is plain simple common sense. Anyway I'll stop there and get to my point.
Our budget is small but flexible. The biggest concern I have right now is flight duration along with distance. All flights will be in line of sight but I would like to research the options out there that allows flights to go beyond line of sight up to four miles if needed. Obviously that will depend on any regulations that is out and comes out. I'm already researching a COA from the FAA.
To keep this short I"ll end it there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
