  • Nice diagram!  All looks proper to me. Very clean and well thought out.  I think we need more filtering on these noisy machines- more caps and toroids on all the power lines would be a thought.  Apparently sonar wants very clean power.

I understand the why of the NiMH batt, but is it really necessary?  Is BEC failure that common?  I do not know, I am asking.  Seems like both linear and switching tech has gotten pretty reliable in the last few years.  I have never had a cell phone charger die, nor have I ever killed a simple 7805 for that matter (bench supplies are a different matter).  I have to wonder if you would ever need the extra battery.  I ran a separate electronics LiPO just to keep the noise from the ESC's out of the delicate bits, but its still powering a linear BEC with no redundancy.  I love redundancy, but when asked to trade for flight time and payload, redundancy loses out with me.

  • I'm not sure about that backup battery idea.  Have you used that before?

I'd maybe suggest using a large capacitor bank instead, like one of the ones sold by Hobby King (called voltage protectors).

Ideally if you could seperate out the camera servos to be on an independent power supply, that would be best.
