Newbie completely at a loss :(

I did a days training a few months back which involved flying a DJI F450 and a DJI Phantom 2. I had a fantastic day and came away full of want to pursue this even more.

I ended up purchasing a DJI F550 (Hexacopter), Naza V2 flight controller along with a Futuba 14SG, not only because it was what I had used during my training but i knew i would have longevity as I hope to move up to bigger payload systems. I have followed all the instructions in the following videos in terms of the actual build:

My F550 powers up fine but I cannot get the motors to fire up at all.

I have tried to follow the Futuba 14SG setup but obviously with no luck. I have installed the DJI Assistant software, calibrated the basic stick controls etc, but I don't seem to get any response from the copter. Having invested quite a bit of money into this, I really want to get up in the air and practicing.

I know the details might be a bit vague, but being new to this i'm not exactly sure what information may be required. I have attached a few photos of where I am so far with the build.

On a side note. Are there any UAV multi-rotor clubs/groups in the essex area. I really want to pursue this as much a possible, but with little to no experience I am finding any kind of progression quite hard.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Jaimie

  • I can't help problem solve your machine but I recommend you swap the naza and receiver positions over so that the naza is in the centre of your frame, and then place your receivers antennae at 90 degrees to each other. At the moment you have them running in parrallel with each other and that won't do much for your diversity (reception). Also check the ESC control wires are around the right way and mount your GPS on a tower/mast at least 4 inches above your frame.

    • Sandy,

Thank you too for the quick response.

I will definitely swap the Naza and the reciever over as you recommended. In terms of ESC control wires, I am not currently getting any power to the motors so i am not sure if this is the problem or not? I have not mounted my GPS at the moment because of no power to the motors, but will do so when I have sorted this issue out.

      • Do you have power to the naza and receiver without USB plugged in? And do the esc's chirp when powering on?

        • I have a green light on the futaba receiver, a flashing green light on the PMU and a flashing amber light on the dji remote led. The esc's don't do anything at all on startup. Thank you for keep trying, much appreciated.

  • Hi Jaimie,

After you calibrated the radio control did you try to arm by pulling both control stick down and towards each other.

You could try the dealer where you purchased your kit from for some support too, but there must be shed loads of multirotor chaps down beside you in Essex, have you looked at any other forums heli or FPV, or tried the DJI site.

    • Hi Martin,

Thank you for your quick reply. I did try pulling both control sticks down and towards each other, but there seems to be no response. I will try other forums regarding local multi-rotor groups. Seems to be a lot more get togethers in the North of England, but haven't seen many down this way.
