Newbie here...Im really lost

Hello,

This is my first post, here and also in the drone world.

My story how I did get here...

Last year I bought my first drone a Syma 5C or something like that....after a few days of use I started trying to make modifications to it...and a few after that...it was totalled.

One night talking to my wife, I think I told her something like "I would like to try the drone world, seems nice, if you know how to fly you wont destroy anything...seems that parts dont wear, you can fly it at a lot of places...and its 3D..not only ground like racing cars, RC, downhill, etc...and now that I have finished my studies I have more time..." (those are my hobbies).

A few a weeks ago, before going on hollydays my wife told me that she bought me something for the hollydays, but seems that it would not arrive on time.

What is...Here is the list:

in the list was AMP 2.6 3DR GPS....DJI F450 Frame

So here I am...on my last days of hollydays, waiting for my present...and I have no idea were to start...

This is a big big world, I thought that was something similar to RC cars.. but no...not that simple..I have spend some good part my hollydays night at my notebook connected to my cellphone with a really bad connection and very slow speed trying to understand...

Here goes my questions, hope someone could help me (I think all of them are basic, but im a bit confused)

1) I have seen what the IRIS+ can do, with this FC I could do the same? (I would love to have a drone chasing me while I do downhill or while I drive a few laps at the circuit)

2) I have read about diferent flying modes, does this have it? Ex. Acro mode

3) Is this plug & play, or you have to always setup it?

4) The frame is good?...Im used to RC cars.."frames" on cars are expensive..and make the diference

5) does this combination can be used for FPV..I like to race in cars and bikes..this would be real fun (I have watched some videos

6) She bought me the turnigy radio with the frsky module and receiver..those are ok?

7) Cant understand if it needs a BEC or not

8) I have a lot of batteries 2S, 3S and 4S that I use with my cars truggys and buggy...what do you recomend for this frame?

9) I have the SJ4000 and a few mobius...I have read about gimballs..they seem nice if I could make the drone follow me while Im in the car or on the bike...Is this compatible?

To anyone who can help me I would apreciate it a lot!!!

Thanks

  • Hi Rolo,

    We've all been there.

    1. DJI F450 Flamewheel frame is a great place to start. - Please go to my quadcoptersarefun.com site about the 2 Flamewheels build for most of what you need to know.
    http://quadcoptersarefun.com/2FlamewheelsBuild.html

2.You can definitely use a 2.6 APM on it and it will perform very well and yes it has all the flying modes listed fore the APM in the DIYDrones Wiki.

    3. You are building it yourself and you will need to follow the directions given in the APMcopter wiki to set it up. But it is straight forward if you just follow along sequentially: - http://copter.ardupilot.com/

    4. The Flamewheel F450 frame is great, one of the very best places to start on a build yourself project.

    5. You can certainly add FPV anytime, this frame and setup will work fine for it, please see my chapter on FPV: - http://dronesarefun.com/FirstPersonView.html

    6. The Turnigy radio and FRSky module and receiver will work fine and can later be used on a Pixhawk should you choose to upgrade. (The FRSky Taranis radio is what is currently reccommended, but the Turnigy combo is in very common use.)

    7. You will need 4 ESCs - 1 for each motor or a 4 in 1 ESC, those generally ghave BECs built into them (Except for the Opto ESCs I used in my build which does require a separate BEC.)

    8. You will want a 3S 2200 to 5000 mah LiPo and 20C is probably plenty - Hobbyking's Multistars give more mah for less weight.

    9. There are just starting to come out some nice brushless gimbals for the Mobius (get one that uses 1806 size gimbal motors rather than the larger 2000 or 2200 size which is used for the GoPro).

    Hope this helps,

If you have any specific questions you can also contact me directly via Email as instructed on my dronesarefun.com website.

    Best Regards,

      Thanks a lot...

There is so much information that it takes time to digest it..

I have watched a few videos of this things and there are no limits...FPV racing, video, etc... I would really like to have one type of drone of each one!!!

      Time&money is always the problem

I have in the pending list for reading dronesarefun.com I look at it yesterday night and mark it.

      Thanks again
