Newbie Remote Question

Hey guys.  I'm just now getting into this whole concept building my own multi copter.  I love to build things though, and find a heck of a lot more satisfaction in playing with something I made as opposed to bought.  I'm still on the research stage of everything I'm going to need and exactly what products I will be purchasing for the build, but I do know a few definites..  I want to build a Quadcopter to carry my gopro.  I want it to have gps and be able to run "missions."  And I also want to be able to control it manually at will should something go wrong while I'm doing a mission, or if I just want to have fun flying it.

So onto the actual question I guess.  I have in my collection of random assorted things a Futaba Skysport 6 channel Tx that I have found out can be converted to 2.4GHz with a module.  I've charged it up and it looks to be in good working order as it was always well taken care of and is in the original box even.  So I figure if it's still a good transmitter I might as well use it and save myself from having to buy a new one.

Would this remote be sufficient for what I'm wanting? or do I need to look at just getting a new transmitter and scrap this old guy?  Thanks a ton for any help anyone can give me.

  • I'd get a 9X system.  Without a 3-position switch you can't easily switch to all six modes.

  • Here is a picture of my Tx.
