Great stuff that you guys are doing at DIY!!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a localization problem. I'm building an indoor UAV and am exploring options for localization, one option is of course SLAM but that demands a scanning laser range finder in addition to tons of computing power. I was considering using NLOS(Non Line-of-Sight) Probes for localization.

One option is of course by checking the strength of a Wifi signal but that's very very inaccuarte(1-3 m), especially for an indoor environment. I'm allowed to use just two as per regulations and in my efforts I came across a company 'Ubisense' that offers a solution using Time-Delay-of-Arrival as well as Angle of Arrival to compute distance of a tag from a probe. The issue is that it's designed for assets such as office personnel or alzheimer patients and even cattle. It hence demands as many probes as possible for maximum accuracy. The company website http://www.ubisense.net/en/resources/factsheets/series-7000-ip-sens... does say(under 'Accuracy') that it will work with just two probes but I'm very concerned about the level of accuracy.

Could someone please guide me on systems that I can possibly use for NLOS localization?

you could have a look at http://cricket.csail.mit.edu/ it uses radio/ultrasound and has cm accuracy but i think you would need more than 2 nodes (could be wrong). All the hardware and source code is available for download.

That helped a lot.....Crricket mote was exactly what we needed. Issue is that I've just found out that it operates at 433 Mhz(Which means it's a line of sight system.....I need to use it in an indoor environment with walls and stuff.....the walls are made of tarpaulin type material)....moreover the system costs about 2000 USD. Any other options available?
