Hi all,
I cannot see any green bars to calibrate radio signals (AC quad, new APM2 board, Mission Planner, win xp)
do you have any hints for me to debug or solve?
board has gps lock.
My thought is that the Mavlink comms is faulty one way (sending to APM direction?/bad cable)
New APM2 recvd. full board with new gps and fully soldered.
I loaded firmware for quad and APM2 easily with Oborne's Mission Planner.
then went to first step - set up of board and no green bars at all in display.
Radio says bound.
In terminal tab of MP, I get the radio values to vary with stick movement (though some appear to be large negative values at times). This is only occasionally - sometimes I cannot get into test mode.
(is there an order that things need to be done and connected?)
Terminal mode gives the 'weird' characters sometimes.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Other:
cannot see any CTS setting for comm port
would try another cable but cannot as connector is special
would try another PC but it develops another issue (Mission planner does not start)
I have been successful with APM 1

Permalink Reply by Brett Glossop on May 5, 2012 at 7:09pm No David, I have sent it back to supplier (3DRobotics) to examine.

after lengthy checking by the 3d team they could find no fault.
Was there a part in my setup and not there's?
Maybe my radio rx is intermittent or has become faulty some time after the start. Its about the only thing I can think of.

The weird mavlink chars are normal. Have you tried loading arduplane firmware and/or just trying with one ESC on throttle?
Permalink Reply by Brett Glossop on May 14, 2012 at 10:53pm the full arducopter software David. The mavlink only seem to work occasionally and more so at beginning. I'm not really looking at the characters until I have to to debug - its the graphics that does not show at all.
I shall get the board back in a few days, and I'll try another rx.
cheers
Permalink Reply by Brett Glossop on May 20, 2012 at 11:33pm Have you succeeded David, I have not. even after receiving my unit back from 3D where no fault was detected.
Permalink Reply by David Dominguez on May 21, 2012 at 9:54am Mine gets delivered today to 3DR...so we'll see what they say.
Our problems differ a bit though, mine connects perfectly to the software and everything works except the radio bars part.
I can verify the PWM going out of the Rx and into the APM2 so it's happening somewhere inside the APM2.

SOLVED!!!
can you believe it?
after 8 long weeks, one return to 3dr and many attempts at solving I HAVE FLOWN.
Solution - was to reverse the throttle on the Turnigy TGY 9x tx AT the transmitter, NOT in Mission Planner
(I hate reversing throttle in any place - so probably not surprising I delayed fiddling with throttle)
this solved "no green bars to calibrate radio signals" issue in forum and several other erratic starup and setup issues
wow its so good to fly.
BIG thanks to all who helped - oh and the community wide.

Are you using the latest MP software (1.1.88)? If so, have you tried another PC?
Permalink Reply by Brett Glossop on May 25, 2012 at 3:02am yes latest MP software used. After above notes I have (my son anyways) has got a new Win 7 PC with different security S/W too and the problem persists, perhaps even worse - i don't even get the window for the radio input. this is after changing the rx as well to one I know works. the only thing I can think of (that is left really) is that
a) turnigy tx power or output is dubios
b) dataflash card is faulty or intermittent - it does say there is no card inserted occasionally and the fit is sloppy
c) I'm not doing things in correct order
d) I'm doing things too slow or too fast (should I wait for the gps lock led ~1.5 min) before going to radio setup?
thanks!!!
