Hi
Like many people in this community I have a healthy respect for all things fast and sharp ! propellers, rotors and heli blades.
What I do not see in the WIKI or other places is a safe approach to operating and flying our UAV's.
We all know to take off the props before messing with a live UAV or airplane and we all have the cuts from when we "forgot" ( me included.)
I am talking BEYOND that point. We have a device that has the potenial to commit serious damage and death if there is a problem or the deivce is misused. We all see UAV's and RC models flown in the wrong place with disregard for others. do we ignore that? as responsible adults we have the responsibility to help others to fly in a safe manner by advice and help, if that does not work talk to the authorities......Ok, I dont like to do that either but its much less stressful that trying to explain to a mother why little johny has a properller in his brain and will be a vegetable for the rest of his life.
We all want to fly and some of us even want to make this UAV project into a business, We need to be able to show the authorities that we have taken correct precautions, tested systems, tested failsafes and performed essentail maintenance. How many of us follow checklists or have a logbook with signitures and dates? not many I'll bet. When you hit someone or something do you think the authoriites will accept your word that you did everything by the book? NO, thay will want the proof!. They will also want the book of advice, we do not have one. Either way you get screwed.
We need a SAFETY reference section, with checklists for airplanes, copters and multirotors that can be printed and taken to the field, correct start up processes and procedures to follow that work and are repeatable., A list of possible safety issues or accidents that have happened to warn others and protect ourselves.
When the USA skies are opened up and suddenly everyone wants to play then the better prepared operators who have a safe method of operation are going to be the winners and the others will be the "also rans" ( I am not a US operator )
Do I know what I'm taking about? yes, as a safety system designer I have been around the blocks a few times on both sides
I am willing and able to help with this to give us all the tools to operate better and safer and with less accidents.
I also welcome comments on this good or bad.
I put this into Miscellaneous becuase there is no SAFETY section !!!
