I am thinking there is a need for a CNC machined aluminum box for the APM2...
Attached is a box I designed for a 2 watt RC transmitter... I made hundreds of these...
I am looking for feed back for something simular, with rubber mounts and clear plastic lid
Light weight... but not super light..
Price $25 - $40

Will it come with standups and mounting bolts? We are looking for a "black box" for our APM 2.0 that has a opening for a DB25 connector (as this is what we are using as our wire harness for the APM 1.0)

The box I am thinking about will be open on both ends with rubber mounts pre mounted on the outside..
Its more of a crash case as it will totally protect the APM2 from any crash... It will also block the wind
so the pressure sensor works better; will increase mass of the APM2 so it will be far less susceptible
to vibration. I thin clear plastic slide in, cover will all that covers up the GPS
This aluminum box will be far too small for DB25
I can make these boxes no problem… I am having trouble finding affordable rubber mounts… $6-$9 each is just too much

Permalink Reply by Dan "HotSeat" Neault on February 26, 2012 at 6:48am Sorry but it's easier just to laser cut sheets of plastic, carbon, or aluminum, then mill out solid billet.
I have access to both a 5 axis mill, and a 4 Kw solid state YAG freq 5 axis laser (cuts 3" thick steel), at work, and I find the laser quicker and less set up / wasted material.
I'll take some pic's and show you all a build up (cut out pieces stacked together)
