Quad Built - Experiencing Issues with Power & ESCs

Working with the ArduCopter kit with APM 2.6+ (no internal compass) - to get it to want to work had to bypass the pre-arm sequence since it does not contain a compass..

When I go to calibrate ESCs, I turn my transmitter on with throttle up, and plug in my LiPo.  I get the 3 tri tone signal and all 3 LEDs light in the cyclic pattern as described, I unplug and replug in the LiPo and get only the 3 tri tone sound and still all 3 LEDs light but faster.  No further sounds from the ESCs.

Is there possibly a wiring issue?  Possibly a battery issue since they are not registering the 3S from the battery?

  • Chris and Wessie -

Thank you for suggestions... just got the issue.. my partner connected the HOT of the escs incorrectly.  Wessie - great idea to go back to the manual for the 4th time!  Thanks a bunch!  Just got all motors spun :) so excited to get it flight worthy this week!

  • Hi Jeff

    first, the obligatory questions  :

    1. Have you read the entire manual, TWICE?

    2. Have you performed the Radio calibration

I am a bit worried that you say you had to "bypass the pre-arm sequence since it does not contain a compass".

The APM 2.6 DOES have a compass, its just external. Do you have the GPS connected with both cables?

The reason for my second question is that the ESC Cal will only work properly AFTER the radio cal.

I doubt it is a battery issue (unless it is not charged), so possibly a wiring issue. How about posting a pic or 2 so we can see if we can spot any glaring problems with that.

if you get stuck you can always try the individual programming of the escs by connecting them to the throttle channel of your RX.

So for now I would go with Radio cal again, if that does not help, let me know and we can try something else.

    Wessie

  • What kind of ESC are they?
