This is my target goal for my drone, though I'll be starting little by little,from ground tests, rc flying, rc flying with components, then autonomous flying.

 

My Drone will be my final year project as a computer engineering student. This will also be my hands-on practice for my newfound interest that'll soon be my hobby. I'll try to do more research, contact more people, and do some practice in RC Flying first. These are the capabilities targeted.

 

Surveillance - 2 cameras, 1 GoPro Hero HD 1 HorizonHD + 2 mini cameras 

 

Multiple Control - RC transmitter with LRS, Android App, Computer (joystick, gamepad, or keyboard), SMS

 

Different Transmission - RF, Telemetry, GSM, 3G (not yet sure, but just optional because of time constraint)

 

Long Range - Target Range(AV & Control) is 5km but will be building drone with range of up to 20km (depending on development process)

 

Drone- obviously it is a drone, so autonomous flying, or manual flying with help from APM2

 

Parachute/Load Drop - This will be one of the feature of the drone, though I'll be conducting tests and research as to how this capability will be added to my plane model. This will just be servo-controlled, but the process of releasing the load is still in question (Guys, I need your ideas/help here

3-Channel Mini Video Switcher <--so i can easily switch camera

Video Transmitter + Receiver <-- for long range video

BEV- Low pass Filter LPF1200/LPF1400

Nano-camera cam 5 grams <-- camera 1, will be FPV_a camera (Backup for HorizonHD, though almost useless)

Nano-color Cam 1 gram<-- camera 2, will be placed at the bottom (could be the 10x zoom camera but too expensive)

 

Other parts not yet purchased but will soon be purchased:

ArduPilot Mega 2 +  3DR GPS LEA-6

ArduStation

Patch Antenna for Video RX (Should I rather choose cloverleaf antenna? reviews for solid video link are all over the internet)

Patch Antenna for RC TX

Considerations:

3DR RadioTelemetry Kit-915 Mhz (cheaper than RFD900 but range is not yet specified)

or

RFD900 Long Range Telemetry (Same with 3DR but with longer range)

2.4GHz Amplifier?

Solar Panel?(Will be considered once UAV is fully operational)

Joystick for Telemetry Control(Will not tackle this until fully capable and knowledgeable on RC/UAV Flying)

Needed, but still choosing:

X8 Motor and Servo (BEVRC stock sold-out, recommendations?)

RC Controller (Turnigy 9X currently preferred, Turnigy 2.4GHz TX + RX)

Module for RC Controller (might be Dragonlink or JR LRS)

Am I still missing something?

Any parts recommendations or help appreciated.

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
