Has anyone everythought about building a uav with a rocket booster at launch then uses like a propeller, or a duct fan for flight after the boost phase??

Would this not be the coolest uav or what??

Im thinking of how the military has to assemble and hand throw their small uavs, but what it u could have a small rocket boosted uav that could be transported in the launch tube to provent damage, and quickly deploy the needed uav..

Just a concept

The problem with one time use rockets is high cost for each launch, but a lot more fun !!
AeroTech out of Cedar City, Utah had a rocket glider with a long burn F engine, it was re-loadable, but I don't know if it is still made. it was big enough for ArduPilot
I think that you are adding inherent instability into the equation with a rocket which makes it cool for fun but I think that it makes too many variables for a repeatable system. Basically I guess I am saying post videos. lol
Antony ,
I believe few of Mil UAVs did use rocket assisted launch and may still be in use, However we are UAV hobbiest and such impure thoughs are prohibited and not conductive to health of out hobby
I understand that military use of UAV's is frowned apon here, but I being limited to ceriatin designs that are widly used such as prop driven uav's.
I am pure in my thoughts of how id use it and why i'd build it, im not gona build a rocket boosted uav to cause any harm to anyone, or thing, and so I am disapointed to be shot down in my thoughts of a Rocket boost phase.
Hi anthony ,
Sorry for the disappointment, The problem is not how pure your or our throughts are , it what Others think how impure your thoughts are!. so we have to limit the thoughts to props, sails, batteries, parachutes, tow cables, co2 , DF or even slow turbine etc etc for now to design..
Wait? how would u use Co2?
Ok, new topic, whats an alturnitive to rocket engine to create a boost phase.
Water, water rocket... The problem with that is that you have to have a vertical takeoff and you don't have a lot of payload...
I thought about it and I found this website
http://www.estesrockets.com/store/rockets/engines.html
the engine is very powerful, although some are smaller.
the only problem I see is the legislation, because it prohibited any rocket that can be run from the ground because it is a guided missile as Sahab-3

I would just like to point out the second video of the JATO, things did not go so well second time around...........

I have seen this one flying in person. We all stood back. This keeps not saving the embed code so I'm going to add it for the last time and the link!

That one looks to be a little more consistent than the ones posted above, did you see how little was left at the end of the video, splinter a wing and some not to be ever trusted again RC electronics! That lipo was battered! I was surprised that there was not some smoke coming from such a hugely deformed lipo.
