after switching to rtl the other day and watching hex plummet to the ground it says in wiki the rtl altitude is set to 0 as default, if this is the case can some one tell me where i set the rtl altitude.

Good question Marc, I had the same problem with my Quad.
It's in the Mission Planner flight planner screen. Make sure you're running the latest ArduCopter code (2.5.3)
