Hey DIYDrones,
First time poster, long time reader.
I have been searching for information on trying to build an autopilot from scratch. I haven't found anything and I thought I would ask the community.
Is it worth attempting is the the complexity so out of control that it's not really doable by one person.
I'm a software engineer, and the idea of having absolut control at the software level seems really interesting. The idea being that there's some sort of OS that could allow interface with payload and complicated tasks. Sort of a one size fits all brain for a flying robot.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

Basically, if I can figure out how to interface with the APM to like hookup a cellular modem that's totally going the be the way I go. If not I'll have to figure out something else for hardware.
It can be done by one person, but it typically takes years. Not something to be undertaken lightly.
I'd start with modifying one of the existing open source autopilots. No need to reinvent the wheel when there are so many good wheels already out there.
