I am usng a JR radio and according to the manual it says to connect the IN one to channel one on the RX which is my throttle. and connect the ardupilot out one to the rudder which makes no sense to me!

I have loaded 2.2.3 and becuse I have no sensors I have a perminant bank on the ground/S
Does 2.2.3 control direction with aileron or rudder or are the ailerons purly for the sensors/level flight. Help would be appreciated

JR radio have throttle in channel 1. ArduPilot has throttle on input 3 (1 is ailerons, 2 is elevator).
ArdUPilot is based on the Futaba and other similar connecting channel order.
Correct this and it should be better looking.
Thanks. I have it all working but due to the bank angle it's difficult to access properly. Am I right in thinking that the direction of the plane is only controlled by the rudder?
Paul, how could the direction be controlled by the rudder if it is not connected to ArduPilot? As you may deduce from my preceding reply, the ailerons, elevator and throttle are conntected to the autopilot, so they are controlling the airframe. Maybe some more reading about the ArduPilot descriptions in the main pages, in the manual, and by searching some keywords through the different forum topics will inform you about how ArduPilot works. And if you're ok with code deciphering, the ultimate answers about all functions is there.
The drawings in the manual show ailerons/rudder so I thought there was an option. unfortunately I am no good with code which is the bases for these projects. Like most people I am keen to try this out but dont have any sensors yet. so I series connected 3 10 meg pots by trial an error and managed to get the roll pretty close to level, now the servo behaves more naturally when I walk about, I understand now that the ailerons control the roll and direction. thanks for the feedback.
The easy star does not have ailerons only rudder
Ok, Paul. since now you say it's about an EasyGlider (which wasn't obvious), then yes, direction is by the rudder.
