Hi
I am new to this. Trying to setup ArduPlane on APM 2.0 hardware in a twinstar. My servo's don't respond, even though all the following is working:
* Perfect connection with APM Planner 1.1.77 via USB. Vertical horizon moves perfectly.
* Connected my receiver to the input ports. Perfect respons in APM Planner under configuration when I moves my sticks.
* Have set all modes from a three-state switch on my trasmitter to manual.
* Applied swicth on APM 2.0 so it can be powered from one of two ESC.
* APM 2.0 powers up perfectly when connecting the battery in my plane without USP caple.
* When looking at "Status" panel in "Flight data" I can see that
--> Mode is Manual
--> Input channels responds to input stakcs
--> ____Output channels responds to input sticks._____
But still all my servos remains in the same spot. But at least they are armed.
Any idea what I am missing.

You need to provide power at the output rail where you have the servos plugged in. Then the power will flow to the input side. If you only power from the input side, the servos won't have power.
Thank you for the answer, but this is not it.
I have the switch on, and I do power from the output side via the ESC signal wire. I can also hear the 'twitter' from the servos, but they just don't respond. If I plug the servos directly into the receiver, the servos work perfectly...

Permalink Reply by Paul Feely on May 6, 2012 at 5:42am Yes, I am very sure. For the connections to the receiver, the manual is very very clear. But of rthe output I had to look at the ArduCopter manual (http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/APM2RC) to see that signal wires should go towards the center of the board.
If I plugged in the servos the wrong way (including the 'servo lead' to the ESC supplying power) I don't think the board would power up perfectly when connecting the battery.

Hi There,
Well, the solution goes like this :-
First, installed the power is normally applied to the 5V rail on the OUTPUT side of the APM. APM1 does not care which side it's powered from and works even if the receiver is powered and the servos still work properly and everything is OK. APM2 does not work like this, powering the INPUT side or the receiver causes the APM to function normally and 5V to appear on the output 5V bus, but there is no power only volts. As soon as it's loaded the voltage disappears.
This is a difference in design between the 2 boards, it's taken quite a few hours to discover this!
The signal levels really are the way they are described in the table, and there really is a voltage gain of around 2.3V.
It does not matter what state the link at JP1 is in for this issue.
I really hope this helps someone and that it's of interest, APM2 is quite different to APM1.
