Hey Everyone,

I am in the process of tearing down my hexacopter and rebuilding it. It is a Rusty Rev-8 Frame, Arducopter 2560 (Mediatek GPS), Spectrum dx6i with ar6200 Rx and satellite. I wanted to know some opinions on mounting locations of the GPS as well as for the Rx??

A. Can you mount the GPS under a dome of some sort? I have hear this may 'burn' up the GPS unit?

B. Can I mount my Spectrum Rx next to the ardupilotmega without any issue? Can this my mounted under the dome without issue?

C. I have run my motor wires through the booms. Can I mount the Rx satellite out on the boom without any issue?

In addition, I'll be mounting a FPV system soon.. I plan on putting the Video Tx down on the landing skids somewhere to get it away from the Radio Tx.

anyone?

I can offer my 2 cents:

Many use a plastic dome to cover their electronics, it should, of course, be breathable.

I mount my Spectrum near the APM with no affects.  Make sure the antenna is not buried under something.  The RX does not radiate of course and it has good rejection from any noise coming from the APM.

I do not know what type of boom you are using but they recommend mounting the Sat 6" away or better from the RX.  Just keep the Sat antenna's away from being right on the boom, keep them a couple inches away.  Some materials will absorb rf and reduce the range of the Sat reception.

Always do a range test to see how well the placement works.
