Permalink Reply by Jonas Bohlin on May 7, 2012 at 11:48am No I wanted to download logs. I forgot to say that I use the 3DRadio (433MHz) telemetry kit to connect to the APM. This because I have trouble connecting using USB.

Permalink Reply by Darryl Jacobs on May 7, 2012 at 12:06pm Jonas, I have seen this happen when I forget to switch the switch on the APM board to CLI mode.
Does this help?
First, ensure that your slider switch is in CLI mode (towards servo rails) and that you've selected the right Com port for your board in the Mission Planner configuration menu.
Select "Log Download" from the Mission Planner Terminal tab. A list of logs from the onboard memory will be shown. You can either select individual files to download or download all of them. They will be saved in your APMMissionPlanner/logs folder, along with a KML, that can be opened in Google Earth.
Note: It can take a long time (several minutes) to download a big log file. Do not interrupt the process until the software reports that it's finished. You can see visual confirmation that data transfer is happening by looking at the Rx LED on your IMU shield. It will be on during data transfer, and go off when it's done.
Permalink Reply by Jonas Bohlin on May 7, 2012 at 3:02pm I use the apm2, so I think there is no CLI switch? And the COM port i set up correct since I get telemetry data from the APM but I can use the terminal window. If I hit Enter tree times, the program freezes.

you are connected via usb an't you?
Permalink Reply by Jonas Bohlin on May 7, 2012 at 3:59pm No, the screen dump is when I'm connected via 3DRadio 433MHz telemetry kit. But When I try to connect via usb (which doesn't work) i get the same kind of strange text in the terminal window. But when I connect via Radio i get flight data.
But I just got connected using USB by chancing the baud-rate to 115200.
I hope that fixed the strange text as well.

Permalink Reply by Gérard Schumacher on May 8, 2012 at 1:58am Hi,
I have the same problem. I just got the APM 2 and try to test the system with the Planner. I am connected by USB. Most of the thinks are working well, except that when I connect the servos at the output, they don't move, neither in manual nor in stabilize mode. The raw output signal is OK.
So I tried to connect the terminal to see what's happening. But I get only strange characters and when I hit tree times Enter, the software freezes.
The version of the Planner is 1.1.79

logs require the use of usb.
as for failing with servos, this is because you are overloading the usb bus on your pc. and the processor is browning out.
Permalink Reply by Jonas Bohlin on May 8, 2012 at 1:47pm I changed the baud rate to 115200 and now my usb connects to the APM2. I can use the terminal (3xEnter to CLI) but sometimes I get the strange characters. But for now, it works good enough.

you may always see some strange characters, but so long as you get the prompt all is good.
Permalink Reply by Roger A on July 31, 2012 at 1:56pm I am getting the same problem on an APM1 board. the CLI functionality cannot be used becasue of this.
When I startup the connection everything works well with the link to the APM1 board. Once I select the terminal option, the CLI screen displays the correct welcome text like Arducopter software version and initialisation. However after showing the GPS status (disabled in my case) it just starts showing funny characters (intermingled with Ground Start, Initialising APM and the Ready to Fly) as shown in the image. After that only strange characters and no response to ENTER key.
I have tried connecting to the APM board using a standard Terminal program (Putty) and when it connect I get exactly the same thing.
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.1355 members
