Streaming FPV to Mission Planner
I look forward to having Mission Planner be able to stream video from a network device. Until that glorious day arrives, is there some Rube Goldberg way to have video from an IP camera show up in Mission Planner?

Well my friend, from 2 months i developed a complete library in my private mission planner to handle the FPV Video stream from my MAV Video System by USB Receiver and draw the HUD on it and view this video stream on the GCS.
I wasn't needing the IP streaming, but this idea quite good and i can work on it to make the library support ip video stream, to extend it's applications.

I think that would be great! I have noticed a lot of interest lately in using 802.11 to send telemetry, control, and/or video. Streaming video from an IP camera seems like the next logical step.
I would appreciate a pm if you make this!

Here's the IP camera I'm using for my rover. The compression format is H.264, which seems to be pretty common among these cameras. I bought it because it was cheap, but it's taken a hell of a beating so far and it keeps working!
Right now, I'm streaming the video in a Firefox window that I place over Mission Planner. Not the most elegant setup. Someone suggested using VLC, but it still involves frequent switching between windows.
Given the amount of attention this article received, I think the time has come for wifi connected systems.
I'm not much of a programmer, but I would be glad to help with this any way that I can!

Most IP cameras support MJPEG over HTTP/RTSP - That's usually the 'browser' video service, i.e the URL that you view using a later version of Firefox.
There may be software out there which turns one of those streams into a Directx video source like the ones the planner can open already. Maybe VLC can do that - it seems to be able to do a lot.

if its mjpg, then its just a case of pulling a jpg from the device, and displaying it. if its a h.264 stream that gets alot more complicated.

You're probably right about it being MJPEG. I'm definitely not an expert at this, and I was just reading off a Chinese datasheet.

Today gopro anounced its highly awaited IP backpack for the hero2. I am interested in knowing how it will perform. Do you think this is a feasible option now?
