I pulled the pin and order a Teradek Cube 255 (digital video transmitter).
It uses dual band 802.11n wifi, an whilst they quote 100m, I'm hoping to get 200m using a high powered Ubiquiti Networks Nanostation M access point.
I will post results when I receive it.
Do the units have antenna diversity (two antennas)? It would be pretty cool to use that feature of 802.11n with both an omni and a high gain.
yes, the Teradek has MIMO antennas
Finally did a proper aerial test of the Teradek 255 on our octo. Got 300m flying at 30m AGL, did a few pirouettes and no loss of signal or pixelization with the bitrate set to 2MBps, 720p 50fps, source GoPro Hero 2, ground station was a Ubiquity Nanostation 5.8Ghz. Could have going further but due to ground traffic we were limited to 300m.
Without the Nanostation and the built in wireless of the decoder, we only got 100m.
Glad to hear it's working for you, Hai. You might get slightly better performance from a ReplayXD. It actually outputs 1080p or 720p on the HDMI whereas most consumer cameras (incl goPro) output 1080i interlaced, regardless of the actual recording mode. So you won't have any interlacing artifacts in motion areas.
If you need even more range you should try directional antennas. Shout if you need help.
Hi Nicol, so far no issues with the Hero2 and the Teradek.
The Nanostation has a 16db MIMO antenna which I believe is directional but with a nice wide 45 degree arc. Apparently the nanostation is designed to work to 15km.
I was wondering if you had any updates about your setup? I'm thinking about purchasing a cube set and the Ubiquiti Nanostation M that you recommended, to use as a long distance monitor and possible live broadcasting for events.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'll sell you my Teradek Cube set if you're interested.
Sorry, I'd like to purchase everything new and under warranty. So what happened? Not getting the range and quality that you imagined?
What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3vpx9E6He4
looks great! would you mind telling me which specific model ubiquiti you used?
did you have the ubiquiti connected to a router or is it an all in one solution?
have you used a teradek decoder with your setup?
it's also be nice to see a few pictures of your wireless setup :)
it would probably answer a lot of questions
could you send me a quote via pm
