So in my stupidity and anxiousness to try an FPV flight.. I dawned the goggles and spooled up the copter. I was in my backyard and panicked. The result was the copter flipped over (god d^mn landing gear) and the apm was not covered on this flight (for some dumb $@#$ing reason). Anyway, it tore off the USB connector from the APM sheild. Is there any possible way to repair this or do I have to order a new one? $159 is pretty steep considering a new APM is $199. Can I utilize an FTDI cable and upload or connect to the mission planner that way?
I have been searching the site and google and I found this image that appears to be an FTDI hookup/solution. Can anyone verify this?
Anyone have an APM 1 Oilpan they want to let go for a decent price?

Permalink Reply by Grips on May 30, 2012 at 6:08pm I guess the other question is, can you lift off the oil pan to upload new firmware or do they have to be together.
Ugh.. this is not looking positive for this oilpan.
Permalink Reply by Grips on May 30, 2012 at 6:21pm yea I was thinking about being able to upload the code.. but I figure the calibration is impossible as all the in/outs for the servo's and rx are on the red board making a new setup impossible if I take the oil pan off.
I wonder is it possible to get another USB connector from Diydrones and try and resolder it to the board?
Permalink Reply by Grips on May 30, 2012 at 6:31pm I will have to get a pic tomorrow. It is now sitting at a 90 degree angle to where it was.
Permalink Reply by Grips on May 30, 2012 at 6:24pm as in connecting the FTDI to the telemetry port and then to the pc?
Permalink Reply by Grips on May 31, 2012 at 1:41pm so today I had a closer look and the usb was only being held on by a pad.. all of the five connections are still there.
I decided to fly again and I brought the copter out to start as it flew best kind after the crash yesterday. When I armed the motors it looks like the firmware is completely reset to a quad and only those four motors are arming. ugh..
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.1288 members
