I am following the instructions located here.  I am having trouble getting the latest APM firmware loaded both through the Arduino IDE (0022) and APM Planner (0.4.34 Build 0.4.4156.15620) while running Windows XP SP2.  The com port baud rate is 115200.  Nothing is attached to the boards except for the USB cable (GPS and Magnetometer I2C cables are not attached, no other wires connected to pins).

In the planner, when I use Action...Upload Firmware, it makes some progress (including getting the hex file) but then progress stops...

Progress does not change after this (I waited for 20 minutes).  During this time the TX/RX LEDs do not turn on anymore.

Any ideas what I should look at next?  Is there a way for me to 'ping' the board to see what works?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Also, I am using ArduPilotMega v1.4 and Hotel 1.0.  I assume AC2 supports this hardware since I just purchased it.

Using the CLI (documented here) I notice the Terminal does not look as it should.  It simply has...

Opened com port

And nothing else.  I cannot type anything and the buttons on top do nothing.

Did you try installing Arduino? Also, do you have the FTDI driver installed?

Yes for both. The driver works and I see it in the Windows device manager. I installed Arduino and the latest code. When I attempt to upload the code, it compiles and prints a message indicating that it is uploading but never finishes.
I have also tried with different USB cables.

I had an upload problem when I mistakenly thought I had a 2560 board, when it was actually a 1280. Once I selected the right board type, upload started working.

Rob

Hi Rob, I made the same mistake.  Once I changed the board setting to 1280, it worked via Arduino.  Thanks for the help!

The Mission Planner software communications quit working for me about a week ago (using W2K).  Have you tried to update the software? There seems to be a newer version only available via live update.  I checked with a Windows 7 machine.  If the update check doesn't work, forget about the Mission Planner software for now. (Maybe you need a newer version of net framework or ...?)

I compiled and uploaded the code with Arduino and configured ACM with the CLI and HyperTerminal.

I'd try the Arduino route again and completely eliminate the Mission Planner software for now.

Most problems like this are power problems, please try another usb port/ powering the APM with a battery.
