I have a problem with my Turnigy ESCs ( link to ESC here and to the hacker style motors here ). When I first got them, I did the calibration procedure explained here, for each one with a Lipo connected (this one here ). They worked, and I was able to control the motor manually with the ESC plugged into channel 3. But now, after charging the Lipo, the ESCs won't start. It keeps signaling a voltage error (beep beep, beep beep...). The manual I found for related ESCs is here which talks about the voltage error message. Using a voltmeter, I measured the voltage of the Lipo to be 11V. So I tried to power the ESC from an external power supply to see if it would start at a some other voltage, which you can see in the video. But it still didn't start properly. I'm not very experienced with RC equipment so I might be missing something major. But I don't understand what's wrong. Do I need the programming card for this type of ESC? I plugged the power cables from the ESC into a fully charged Lipo and the BEC into ch 3 on my Rx, turned on my Tx, went from zero throttle to full throttle and nothing changed in the beep pattern, it kept signaling a voltage error.
2. Yes, this is happening with all of my ESCs.
Permalink Reply by Jim Bazar on June 13, 2011 at 8:08pm Your problem is that the ESC's are not calibrated to the throttle stick yet! I am using same motors and esc's in my hexacopter and they will calibrate with this automatic procedure found here: ESC Setup, when doing this don't forget these things: before repowering the copter after doing the ESC command in the CLI, slide the CLI switch back to fly mode, and have the transmitter at full throttle before you plug your copter back in, then after the long beep lower the throttle all the wayand you will get anohter long beep, then the esc's will reboot with several different beeps, when you finally get silence, unplug the copter again then repower it. You should not hear the double beep again until something happens and you have to redo this procedure again for some reason. I have done it a lot!
After you are done calibrating the ESC's you can arm the motors by sliding the throttle at lowest position to the right and holding it for at lest 2 seconds, watch the oil-pan LEDs, the green one will go solid when the motors are armed. To lock the motors, at minimun throttle, push to left and hold for at least 2 seconds the green light will began flashing again when the motors are locked.
