Hi guys

Recently I have purchased a UBLOX LEA-6 GPS and plugged to my APM 2.5, but I can not get any signal on my MissionPlanner. I was double checking the connection and noticed the cable which came with GPS has wrong polarity (if I'm not wrong). The GND has red wire instead of black, and 5V port is black. There is a tiny red LED at the back of the board. Is it correct?

Thanks for any help

Yes, I do get the red power LED on when I power the board or connect it to my computer using FDTI and adapter cable. But the red LED is dim and I have no blue (blinking or solid) LED at all.

Last night I received my FDTI and adapter cable and just tried to connect to my computer. When I was uploading .txt file I got this error. Since the UBLOX doesn't communicate with the software properly, (although COM port is ok and I can connect to GPS) I can not get any info about my GPS in the software.

I would contact 3DR support and see what they suggest you should do. it may need to be returned.

They have generated a RMA number for return. But I want to make sure the problem is not from my side before return.

Sorry that my advice with the FTDI cable didn't work out for you. Sometimes you have to swap tx/rx but when the connection was ok that should have been connected the right way. You will find the ftdi come in handy on several other occasions (minimosd etc) anyway :). I wish that the new year brings you a working gps!

Thanks Crashpilot1000 for reply. Anyway I need a FDTI in my box for future needs.

@Iman,

The dim red LED indicates that the pins on the GPS connector on the circuit board are not well soldered. I kept getting an intermittent power connection to the GPS when I would move the cable or touch the cable connector on the GPS circuit board. The solution was to use a very fine pitch tip on my Weller soldering iron, plenty of liquid flux, and a strong magnifying glass to reflow the connector pins to the respective pads on the circuit card. After that, no problems with the power to the GPS or the Tx/Rx signals.

Just a thought.

Thanks for info. In fact I am sending it back to 3DRobotics for repairs.

By their policy, they will not repair/swap if they find any sign of attempt of repair in the unit, so I just decided to send them back tomorrow. Also I'm not sure if I should send my APM 2.5 as well or not with GPS unit. Because I'm afraid of having a problem with APM board itself (at GPS port), since it sends 4.67 volts to GPS unit instead of 5V.

I an currently ging thru this with my ublox module.  I had no signs of life, out of the box with mine.  After ordering replacment cable(s) and attemping to flash the firmware I contacted 3DR and sent it back with a supplied ground Fedex return lable.

Fedex has confirmed that they reiceved my return seven days ago, however, so far I have reiceved no response from them.

Meanwhile, I ordered the Mediatec gps module, because its cheep and I wanted to see if the problem was with me or my APM.  The Mediatec module powered up and obtained a lock without any trouble, and with the same cable I was using for the Ublox module.  So I am confident that my Ublox module is DOA, But still waiting for a response from 3DR.  The Mediatec module shows big drift, (50 to 80 feet from my actual position) so I cant see counting on this to get my beast home.
