Understanding Internal/External Compass Readings?

Pretty convinced I have a compass problem, trying to determine of what nature - (hardware failure / interference) and where (internal/external). I have graphed below the MAG/MAG2 values for MagY and OfsY.

Check for understanding (the current wiki page is quite out of date on these):

1. MagY is the RAW value from the sensor, unbiased by the offsets calculated during calibration?

2. OfsY is the offset calculated by Mission Planner compass calibration?

3. MOfsY is the interference compensation to be applied?

If MagY is actually the adjusted value then the wiki should be fixed (the wiki just talks about COMPASS rather than MAG). If it's the unadjusted value (which I find hard to believe) then the values in the graph below give me great cause for concern!

Is it possible to graph the actual compass value used and compare internal and external performance, or is this the SQRT(x^2 + y^2 + z^2) thing?
