USB not recognized at all

Hello Everyone,

I just got my APM2 this week. I was running through the steps to configure it for the 3DR Hexacopter.

I was able to load the 2.5.5 Arducopter firmware and everything seemed to be going fine. I made it to calibrating the ESC's. I found that one motor would not calibrate. After checking I found a loose connection with a deans connector. I disconnected everything and then soldered a new one one. Now had power at the ESC.

I went to try and calibrate my ESC's again and it would not calibrate any of them. I noticed that the tx and rx LED's were no longer blinking and the red and blue LED's were blinking. I figured I'd unplug it from the battery and plug in the USB to see what might be going on.

Now it does not even get recognized that it is even plugged in. I get power and the red and blue blinking LED's but no communication. I read through all the things I could find but didn't see a definitive answer.

Seems to get GPS lock as that light goes solid blue but now the red LED just sits and blinks with the blue one next to it just on solid.

Any Ideas of what happened and what to do now?

I tried different cables but the red LED concerns me.

Any help would be great.

UPDATE:

I went to the multirotor event on the 17th of June. I got to meet a bunch of great people. The guys from 3DR were there and very helpful.

It was amazing to see these things in action.

Just wanted to say thanks to Sam from 3DR and Chris for all the help.

I have a new or fixed APM2 on the way.

OK got the programmer.

I must say that is fun being able to look at things. I was able to update it to v2.2.68.

When I read the existing memory before the update it was all f's. So looks like it was wiped.

Now it has the correct code on it but still no connection. Looks like Chris was right in that the MUX has issues.

Anything else I should try before I give 3DR a call?

I'll ping them on your behalf, but as Vernon says, you should try calling. They do tend to be quite responsive.

I did try and call this morning but was told to go through email.

I did get a nice email from them late last night that was helpful. They had me go through the same things listed earlier and had a nice tutorial on it. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem.

So now I need to just wait to hear back from them I guess.

If anyone has any help on what I might try next that would be great.

I requested an RMA but have not had anyone reply back that I can send it back.

Should I call them back and tell them I need to return it to be fixed. The person on the phone seemed to only want me to handle things through email.

The learning part you are absolutely correct about. I love this project and hope to learn a great deal. It will be great to meet others this weekend and learn from them.



I hope no one takes this thread the wrong way. I'm not beating up on either the APM 2 or 3DR. I'm sure everything will get sorted.

I have got a similar issue. I have just got a new kit today and soldered the pins and shield in place but cant get it to install on my xp computer.It shows ATmega32U2 DFU with a ? in the device manager window but cant install it. I have downloaded the drivers from the instructions page and can see them in my downloads folder,but when i am given the browse option when searching for drivers to install the downloaded drivers are not visible to select. The APM is connected to my pc via a usb cable and that is all that is connected to the APM. I have a solid blue light and a solid green light on the units.

I just get a message saying "the hardware was not installed because windows cant find the driver.

Please if someone has any ideas what to try I would be very great full.

Darren: Did you use the Installer, as instructed in manual? You shouldn't have to download drivers yourself.

Yeah I used the installer as instructed n the manual. Then I followed the link to the driver as the APM said it needed a driver to run when I hooked it up to the USB. I have just followed the manual so far.I am going to get my head down now and in the morning pick up a new cable and have another go. I a pretty sure my soldering is all ok but will also have a look at that.

I have resolved my problem.

I purchased a preassembled board and there was sever contamination on the board that shut down some of the cct. Both Xbee and usb would not connect. I re flashed the 32u2 but it was the same. When I removed the the board from the quad I could see the contamination I cleaned it but you can see some of the damage caused by the contamination. Seems to work good after cleaning.

Make sure your boards are clean of flux/rosin after soldering.
