What controller to use?

Hello

I'm new to this forum and drones in general.
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I'm having a hard time making a decision for a controller.

I want to build a quadcopter from scratch. I was first thinking about using a Raspberry Pi, but then I thought that it won't be fast enough for acquiring data from sensors and commanding the motors, so I thought about Arduino.

After building the drone itself, I will also work on some other projects using it and I will possibly need some data processing (where the Raspberry more-powerful processor is needed).

Is it a good idea to use both controllers? If it is, how do I get them to communicate one with another fast enough?

What about Arduino Yun? Would that be a better idea?

Or if you have other controller suggestions, I am looking forward to hearing them.

Pls answer me as soon as you can, because I'd like to order some of the parts during this week.

Thank you

  • I think, if reading your post correctly, you are wanting to code on your own and are asking what platform (circuitry, processor, etc)  to employ.

Building from scratch usually refers to the airframe. You can see my blog or THIS Instructable for tips on doing that.

Other than the pioneer spirit and having lots of time to dedicate to this, why not use proven, well supported controllers like APM, PX4, KK,KK2.0, AeroQuad, and several others?

Is this a school project or hobby?

Are you wanting to fly or spend all your time at a bench?

You need to state the purpose of the aircraft or project before taking this on from the ground level (pun intended).
