andrew tridge posted a while back about a daylight readable screen, ie cut the back cover of the laptop out.

I splashed out on a EP121 Windows 7 Slate.

It comes with a leather folio case that doubles as a stand, but more importantly a sun shade!

I use it for ALL my computing, FPV video editing, Mission Planner, Arduino 023 and replying to forum posts ;o)

Excuse the poor photo, its a frame from the end of a video session.  I use my Android phone to provide a mobile WIFI hot spot for Mission Planner maps, software updates and forum searches if I need help with something.

The touch screen can be fiddly for some activities such as changing the zoom level for maps so I use a wireless mini keyboard.

Its all cost a fortune, but does the job perfectly.  One last thing, battery life on the EP121 is only a couple of hours so I have a 12 volt to 19 volt inverter (cheap in-car laptop charger in a blister pack from the local petrol station) in the case running off a 3S lipo to top up the charge if need be.

Wow, impressive setup. Is the eee slate clearly visible outside? I have the eee pad, and it's very poor outside.

I've only had a few outdoor sessions with my setup and have always been able to see the screen.  BUT the weather here is often pretty dull so not tried it in very bright sunlight yet.

I do expect to make use of the hood as shown in the photo to shade the screen once we get some sun back!

Its a glossy screen which isn't ideal in theory but doesn't seem to be a problem.  The Gorilla Glass is very strong and has a lovely feel and very responsive to touch.  Mission Planner runs on it very well and looks great.

I had originally planned to plug in my video goggles as an external screen and have the MP artificial horizon with live video background displayed on them.  I'll wait and see what the MinimOSD looks like first I think.

Ah I see.

I'm thinking of trying to ignore the gaffaws and go for a black shroud over my head while reading the screen, or get goggles.

I'm thinking goggles :)

Where do you get info about MinimOSD ?

The only info for the MinimOSD is this blog post.  I'm looking forward to it as it will complete my FPV platform but getting a little impatient now :o)

Could REALLY do with an update from DIYD!
