What is the best way to measure altitude, except gps

Hello all, i would like to know from your experience what is the best suited sensor for measuring altitude from the barometric pressure change.

I've been playing arround with some filters and bmp085, but the results are not so stable, i have variations of even 4-5 meters, wich are not so pleaseable...

Do you know any sensor variants that perform well?
