I have successfully built an API that will work with Ipad/ Iphone and will be able to port it to Android. This app can create missions, follow live mavlink .9 (Still working on 1.0) data with telemetry data. Cool thing is that it is a cheap cable to make. I want to know how many people would be interested in this App and the cable. There will be two versions one for jail broke devices that will have a few extras and for regular IOS and Droid OS. If there enough buzz I will give a lucky few in couple weeks a free beta pass through iTunes to be able to test and use for flight. What the app does is that it send a mavlink message to the xbee or 3d radio back and forth so you be able to fly and track using your tablet or phone.

I am very new at this but I was just getting ready to ask if there is a way to put all of this on my iPad so I can use it on there. I think that would be really cool! Also a question, I am what you would call an extreme novice at this but it is very interesting to me. Any advice on what type of plane and things to buy would be very helpful.
I would be very interested in the app and the cable, it sounds exactly like something i would use

Permalink Reply by Bruce Jones on June 27, 2012 at 11:47pm Count me in as interested. I'd love to leave my MacBook Pro running Parallels at home. Put me in the non-jailbroken category. Though I do have an old iPhone that's jailbroken....
Jail break will allow more features but non jail break you still will be able to set waypoints and telemery data. Right now I am working on being able to change the waypoints while the plane in flight say instead go to waypoint 4 click RTL and then the plane will start heading home. The baud rate is always a issue some key bugs that need to be workout before I put this on a real flight.
@Jake Tripp, The app is made for the iPad resolution but will work with all other devices. This app will let you create your missions and receive live data while in flight. Still working on log records and such. The app will have a onboard display but will not show video of your flight just your alt and speed and angle in a image interface. Researching is your friend but the Bixler, Easystar, and Skywalker are excellent planes to fly for new and advance. However, with Easystar and Skywalker there will be alot of mods before you can fly. Bixler you just need to replace all the control horns and propeller to 6x4E pusher prop is the best and your ready to go. 5.8ghz 200mw is a cheap video transmitter but you need to have a circualar antenna to increase range since the range is short with stock antenna.

I have an Android phone, rooted, and I would be totally interested in this!
Once i get the IOS version completed I start working on a port for Android. Half the code is java and the mavlink code is java base it will be easy to fully port over. Just have to get the hardware drivers to be able to listen and sent mavlink data from mini usb to usb so little more hardware challenge and have to build and test cable on a Android device. Both Apps will be native apps so need need for the internet. However, before you leave you can download the aerial maps of the area your going to fly in.

Convert them to .class and little trick. Use some of this technique www.in-the-box.org/ HTML 5 and xcode.
Permalink Reply by Wessie on July 2, 2012 at 7:13am seconded! Dont know why people still write for IOS, looks like Android will soon be the last man standing, but thats a discussion for another day / forum. LOL.
I would like to have an Android app for Mavlink. To find a way to get the APM to send the Mavlink data via Wi-Fi would be even better, or what have you been working on?
