Windows 7 64-bit and ArduPilotGCS-Beta2 problem reading com port

Hello All,

I am having trouble getting the ArduPilotGCS-Beta2 Working with my new Laptop. I have installed Labview Runtime 9 32-bit (LVRTE90std) as instructed in the wiki.

Standard Download: LVRTE90std.exe (160 MB)

Download Language: Chinese (Simplified); English; Korean; German; Japanese; French
Product Line: LabVIEW
Version: 2009
Release date: 08-01-2009
Software type: Run-Time
Operating system: Windows 2000; Windows 7; Windows XP; Windows Vista; Windows Vista x64; Windows 7 64 bit

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the GCS from the download section, and I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Google Earth (version 5.2.1.1547).

Here is the problem I am having. When I launch the GCS, GE opens and initializes, the GCS opens. When I go to the setup tab I can't set the com port. The only com port listed is com 4, which is normally used by my FTDI cable which is not currently connected. I have tested the X-Bees, and confirmed communications with the X-CTU utility. The device manager shows the X-Bee connected to com 5. I have tried turning on the ArduPilot, no change.

I am using the following hardware and software:

Toshiba A665 Laptop
Intel I3 Quad Core 2.27GHz
4GB Ram
500GB 7200 RPM HD
Display: 1366 x 768
Windows 7 Home Premium

Labview 2009  LVRTE90std.exe
Google Earth version 5.2.1.1547
ArduPilotGCS-Beta2

I'd really love to get this working! So if anyone can offer any support/suggestions please let me know!

Thanks

Nathaniel

too funny
That means you didn't install the LabView drivers. Instructions are in the manual
also in the manual the driver link is not the one for the windows 7 that you need go to the download page and find the windows 7 VISA download and get that. Its what I did and works on win7 32 and 64 bit Though I have noticed you have to kill the GCS as there is no way to close it and a few other weird things with the GCS.

This is the one in the wiki does not work for win7 http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1071/lang/en -- works only to vista

here is the one that works for win 7 http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2136/lang/en
Jeremy, thanks for the catch. The manual has been updated for the more recent driver.
Chris,

Thanks, I missed that in the wiki, I can see the link clearly in the instructions....I just missed it which surprises me because I probably read it 10 times. I guess I expected the RTE to be a complete package with the drivers.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the thoughtful clarification, and the clear instructions.

bGatti,

????? Gee thanks for your help?????
ok, sorry, it was short.
in 2000, my employer wanted to protect some software (i wrote), so we bought these parallel port dongles; only the computer I had at the time - didn't have a parallel port or a serial port, and that was like 10 years ago.

So here we are 10 years later beating still this poor dead horse - now - in 64 bits. Serial Comm is anachronistic, and the juxtaposition with 64 bit is well, too funny.
bGatti,

Thanks for the clarification. OK now I can see the humor in it ! Funny stuff ! I am happy to report that overlooking the driver installer seems to have been thee problem. I haven't put the hardware in the loop yet.....but the software seems to be recognizing the com port.

Regards,

Nathaniel
