I have finished building up my x quad up to an x8 coax configuration. I found the diagram for wiring the motors as per the Wiki for APM 2, and have double checked the actual motor wiring by listening for the esc beep as I disconnected the motors 1 by 1. She is mechanically ready to fly!
BUT! I am running into issue with firmware. I thought the x8 coax firmware was available via the Planner, but I am finding the oct firware in planner is not the correct firmware for X8 coax. Am I correct in this assumption, because the motors test looks nothing like the video of the x8 on the wikli.
Question 1-- Do I have to load x8 coax setup via arduino?
Question 2-- is this cofiguration going to be available via APM in the near future?
Question 3-- Assuming the x8 config is not in Planner...Can someone point me to a how to on loading x8 coax firmware via arduino?

I was just going to say that... you beat me to it!

My usb is very loose. and in order to connect I must power via battery, I am guessing the 5v in from usb pin is damaged or loose, but it is registering in devices fine and uploads via planner firmware no problem. I keep getting serial port COM13 not found
. Yes that is right port number and it is set under tools for this port.

Hm... I guess not. Maybe a good feature to add :-)
Permalink Reply by Ian forbes on April 3, 2012 at 9:06pm I checked CLI myself prior, (I do understand basic dos comands so CLI makes sense to me heh) frankly there is no good how to setup your x8, I have searched over and over...
I had to find out you had to load through arduino from another member this afternoon, so at least I learn fairly fast...,
I seriously thought "hey cool, there was a diagram for X8 in the wiki, surley it must be in the firmware. I searched through the wiki, found lots of great info except the actual setup in firmware! If you get me through this I will write it up as a contributing newb so you won't have to answer any more questions! Hah...
Just read your last comment, this is exactly the kind of guidence I need!

Permalink Reply by Randy Ram on April 23, 2012 at 12:34pm Hi there Ian.
I am pretty much in your shoe right now. Built up an X8 then figured out there is not easy way to set it up.
Now, I am readying this thread to figure out how to set it up . How is it flying?
Any chance you can type up a little pointers on how to get the x8 config?
Thanks
Permalink Reply by Randy Ram on April 25, 2012 at 3:19pm Well, I tried to change the APM Config file to Octo Quad like the examples posted. But when I compile, it gives bunch of errors. I know I selecting the right board too. Is there anything else I am missing?
Permalink Reply by Ian forbes on April 28, 2012 at 7:18am Hey sorry for delay in response. I had "el Superbeasto X8" flying pretty well, but last flight a week I was banking hard right in a radial curve, and it "slid" sideways as I was pulling level, and went straight into the dround, breaking 2 arms and 5 of the props. Still don't know why...
I was having some odd issues with initial loading via Arduino, compile errors etc, and also had an odd esc issue with motors 7 and 8 beeping like they were uncalibrated.... Last AC version worked great though.. If I can help with basic setup, PM me. If I have a few moments I will be glad to help...
Permalink Reply by Ian forbes on April 28, 2012 at 7:22am Try loadding without compiling, It will compile as it loads. Also make sure you have newest v of Ardu Coptor... Also did you change the line to acknowledge the APM2 board? Post screen shots of errors will help..
Permalink Reply by Randy Ram on May 23, 2012 at 12:33pm I got it loaded a few weeks back. Had a few hovers on it so far with the new firmware. I feel like its a little sensitive on my stick. Tried adding some expo, still feels a little sensitive. Think its because of having all the thrust on the quad. Need tame it down a bit.
Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.74 members
